Here are the poker hand rankings starting with the best possible hand:

Royal Flush

The very best poker hand is called a royal flush. A royal flush is an Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and Ten of the same suit, spades, for example.

Odds of getting a royal flush: 1 in 649,350

Straight Flush

The next best poker hand is called a straight flush. It consists of five ordered cards of the same suit. An example of a straight flush would be a Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, and Five of the same suit, such as hearts.

In the event that two players have a straight flush, the winning hand is the one with the highest card.

Odds of getting a straight flush: 1 in 72,192

Four of a Kind

This is a hand with four cards of equal rank, such as four Queens. Four of a Kind is also known as "Quads."

In the event that two players have four of a kind, the highest four of a kind wins. If two or more players have the same four of a kind, then the player who holds the highest fifth card (called the kicker) takes the pot.

Odds of getting four of a kind: 1 in 4,165

Full House

A full house consists of three cards of one rank, and two equal cards of another rank, for example, three Tens and two Aces. A full house is also known as a "boat."

In the event that two players have a full house, the hand with the highest three cards wins. If both players have equal three of a kinds, than the player with the highest pair of cards is the winner.

Odds of getting a full house: 1 in 694

Flush

A flush consists of five cards of any rank in the same suit such as diamonds.

If two players each hold a flush, than the player with the highest card in their flush wins.

Straight

A straight is made up of five cards in consecutive order, regardless of suit. For example, a Queen, Jack, Ten, Nine, and Eight of varying suits.

If two or more players have a straight, the player with the highest card in their straight wins.

Three of a Kind

Three of a kind is three cards of equal rank, such as three Eights. It is also known as "Trips."

In the event that two players have three of a kind, the player with the highest three of a kind wins. If both players hold the same three of a kind, then the player with the highest fourth card is the winner.

Two Pair

Two pair is a hand with two pairs of equal cards, for example two Tens and two Aces.

If two players have two pair, the highest pair determines the winner. If two players happen to have the same two pair, the player holding the highest fifth card, "kicker" will win the hand.

One Pair

One pair is made up of two cards of equal rank, such as two Sevens.

If two players hold a pair, than the hand with the highest pair wins the pot. If two or more players hold the same pair, than the player with the next highest card, "kicker" is the winner.
